Acid staining concrete is the process of applying colored stain to new or old concrete.  The “acid” part of the stain is actually metallic salts that react with the lime content in concrete.  Once there is a chemical reaction between the acid stain and the lime in the concrete, the stain becomes a permanent bond to the concrete.  Since every concrete slab is different, the acid staining process will typically produce a variegated look of dark and light tones.  It can also be difficult to duplicate acid stain in multiple concrete surfaces and have it look the same, since lime content in concrete can vary from slab to slab.  We have had customers ask if the “acid” in the stain will come off or is dangerous to children or pets.  The answer is “no”.  The stain permanently bonds to the concrete and will not rub off onto people or pets.  The stain can fade over time and must periodically be cleaned and/or sealed.  For more information, check out our main site at www.MajesticStoneWorksAZ.com.
